BioTrack was established in 2010, and sells point-of-sale (POS) and seed-to-sale inventory management software. [1]

The Oregon-based company was acquired by Helix TCS in 2018, who then sold it to Florian, a healthcare tech company, in 2021. [2] In 2023 Florian divested Biotrack to Alleaves, at which point it was reported to be merging with MJ Freeway. [3]

BioTrack leadership ousted its co-founders in November 2022, which prompted them to sue the company platform. [12] Along with online customer resources, BioTrack provides a list of approved hardware. [13] [14]

BioTrack State Contracts

As of 2025, BioTrack operates in all but six US states, and advertises state contracts with the following [4]:

The Arkansas Medical Marijuana Commission contracted with BioTrack in 2018, and their Department of Finance and Administration entered into a temporary contract in January 2025. [5]

As of March 2025, the Deleware Office of the Marijuana Commissioner was still in the initial licensing process [6], but state officials had previously contracted with BioTrack for medical cannabis traceability. [7]

North Dakota

The North Dakota Department of Health entered into a contract with BioTrack in 2018 related to their medical marijuana program. [9]

Virginia

Washington

BioTrack was the software vendor selected by the WSLCB in 2014 to operate the seed to sale system. [10] This system was removed in October 2017 and replaced with MJ Freeway/LeafData in February 2018. [11]

The old system was available at wslcb.mjtraceability.com. During the State system outage in 2017 BioTrack also operated a contingency system.

Process for creating retail packaged joints in BioTrack based systems (Washington, New Mexico, Hawaii, Illinois, etc)

== From Flower or Flower Lot ==

To make Flower or Flower Lot ready for pre-rolled joints it must first be converted to Marijuana Mix, then QA tested, then packaged (converted).

  • Other Material Lot Combine/Convert => Mixed
  • Select Mixed and Create QA Sample
  • Convert Mixed Lot to Mixed Packaged

== From Other Material ==

To make Other Material/Lot ready for pre-rolled joints it must first be converted to Marijuana Mix, then QA tested, then packaged (converted).

  • Other Material Lot Combine/Convert => Mixed
  • Select Mixed and Create QA Sample
  • Convert Mixed Lot to Mixed Packaged

== Joint Flight ==

Start same as above, then select multiple Processing:Marijuana Mix to make Mixed Packaged

  • Mixed Lot A, Mixed Lot B, Mixed Lot C => Mixed Packaged ** Labels Must Include QA of each Source Lot

== Infused ==

These items are classified as Mixed Infused, a Retail product. Combine Tested Mix Lot and Hash, Kief or Oil Processing products into Mixed Infused. The Mixed Infused items will need be sent for QA

Flower and/or Other material will be Converted to the Extract (eg: Kief)

Flower and/or Other material will be Combined to Marijuana Mix

Both products will be Combined to Mixed Infused
